THE NEW GODS: Earth, Water, Fire, & Air
Porcelain
2025-2026
One of my deepest joys is traveling through Mexico to study ancient ceremonial sites. My newest sculptures translate this research into porcelain, reimagining the ancient gods and goddesses through form and symbol. By juxtaposing the structure of Mesoamerican ceremonial incense burners with contemporary visual language, these works merge ancient and modern belief. They invite reflection on how historical narratives continue to shape our present-day spiritual and cultural understanding.

Vallejo’s broad command of a variety of mediums: painting, sculpture and site-specific installations are all within her prolific oeuvre. Her interests and subject-matter spans are considerable. Themes of beauty, consumption, war, excess, world pollution, iconic references to international indigenous peoples and earth-based installations all reside in her works. No commitments are implied in her work, but rather veiled assurances and alternatives. Such well-composed and thoughtful gestures seem hard to come by in our image and information-saturated lives.
